CAFB extends a warm welcome to two new members of the Farm to Family department: Procurement Administrator Roopreet Soorma and Logistics Administrator Carson Sipes. The whole Farm to Family team looks forward to keeping a steady supply of produce and protein moving across the state in our mission to end hunger.
Roopreet, better known as Roop, received her bachelor’s degree in procurement and supply chain. She previously worked in purchasing in the wine industry in Napa, as well as retail purchasing, and her first job out of college was buying insulation for Boeing Airplanes. Her job as procurement administrator includes supplying protein (milk, eggs, pinto beans and shelf stable) products and building strong partnerships with brokers and food banks to provide a cost-efficient and timely work flow. She loves knowing that everyday she helps provide food for those who need it. On the weekends, she runs a bridal beauty business.
Carson has an extensive background in administration and logistics, in both customer service and handler capacities. As the logistics administrator, he assists in the booking and coordination of the flow of carriers (trucks) bringing produce from farms to food banks. He will also address shipping issues as they arise and act as a liaison between the carriers and food bank receiving departments/warehouses. He says, “Getting to play such a vital role on the literal ‘food chain’ in the fight against hunger is the highest privilege I can imagine. I have been a food bank recipient in my lifetime so I am grateful for the opportunity to serve this organization.” Carson enjoys spending time with his wonderful family, especially if it involves his dog, Disney, Harry Potter, and/or theme parks.
Welcome to CAFB, Roop and Carson!
