Stamp Out Hunger This Saturday

May 10, 2017

May 13 will postmark the 25th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. What began at a local branch in Phoenix in 1990 evolved into a pilot drive in 10 cities, including San Jose, the following year. The first nationwide event occurred in 1993 (using Bil Keane’s “Family Circus” cartoon) and has since grown to more than 1.5 billion total pounds of food collected.

This year’s promotional video for the event featured letter carriers who look forward to the yearly event and food recipients who are grateful for the community’s participation. It also highlighted one of our members, Community Action Partnership of Orange County.

The director of Orange County Food Bank and (CAFB board member), Mark Lowry, stated, “The fact that letter carriers are the only group in America that visits every home and business in America every day means that they have a reach that nobody else does. They can provide every American an opportunity to help their less fortunate neighbors in a way that no other organization has the capacity to do.”

You can help letter carriers “deliver hope” by leaving a bag of non-perishable food by your mailbox this Saturday and by spreading the word about Stamp Out Hunger.
