We thank you, our members, for convincing Governor Brown and the Legislature to include $8 million for CalFood in the 2017-18 state budget, $2 million in one-time funds and $6 million ongoing support. This historic achievement was a group effort. Many members made multiple visits, calls, emails and more. Representatives make decisions based on relationships and their awareness of food banks’ value to their communities. Therefore, every action counts.
Ongoing support is critical to food banks, and CalFood’s continued presence in the budget demonstrates deep-rooted progress, as we elevate the issue of hunger at the Capitol.
Based on our work with California Department of Social Services (CDSS), we anticipate that implementation will be swift. The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) providers should hear from CDSS in the next two weeks, and we will continue to share any updates.
Finally, we thank the Legislature and the Administration for their efforts to ensure that all California families have a chance for a healthy, happy future. We encourage you to thank your representatives directly using pre-populated links below.
